About Amy C Howard

Textiles have shaped my understanding of home for as long as I can remember. I learned to sew and embroider at the age of five, and from that moment on, fabric became more than material—it became memory, comfort, and story. Textiles mean home to me.

I am the founder and designer behind Plente Motif, a surface pattern design and art studio creating hand-drawn patterns and artwork for interiors. My work is inspired by architectural detail, natural elements, and the quiet poetry found in historic interiors, travel, and cultural ornament. I design with the intention of helping spaces feel layered, storied, and thoughtfully lived in—never contrived, never fleeting.

At the heart of my practice is a belief in craftsmanship, quality, and longevity. I create licensing-ready surface pattern design collections for textiles, wallpaper, and home decor products that lean on centuries-old traditions while remaining relevant to contemporary interiors and modern life. Each collection is developed with cohesion, adaptability, and production in mind, allowing patterns to layer effortlessly across spaces and products—an approach particularly suited to textile companies, wallpaper producers, and interior-focused brands seeking depth and relevance rather than trend.

Alongside my pattern design work, I create original artwork that is closely related, yet intentionally distinct. My art and surface pattern designs exist in a symbiotic relationship—each informing the other. The artwork is more playful and intuitive, often semi-abstract, with a childlike freedom that brings lightness and delight. Created in mixed media and coordinated color stories, these pieces are designed to live beautifully within interiors while reintroducing a sense of wonder and quiet joy.

Every pattern and artwork I create carries with it a piece of my life: memories, travels, architectural details, landscapes, and the cultures and people I love. Together, they reflect a sense of abundance—of color, of story, of life well-lived.

My background includes decades of study in art and interior design, as well as professional practice as an interior decorator. I hold deep respect for the interior designers, art directors, and textile companies who work tirelessly to create exceptional products and environments for their clients. This understanding informs every pattern and artwork I produce. I design with real-world application in mind—scale, longevity, livability—while weaving narrative and interest throughout each collection.

My hope is that homes featuring Plente Motif art and surface pattern designs feel timeless yet personal: comfortable, layered, and deeply human. Spaces where everyday life is gently elevated and memories are made.

When I’m not in the studio, you’ll most likely find me wandering a museum, photographing architectural details and natural forms, dreaming about or planning my next travel adventure, watching All Creatures Great and Small, rewatching Gilmore Girls or a Bollywood favorite with my family, or absorbed in a good detective story. And then there’s chocolate… always chocolate. Dark chocolate.
